Guidance for Adult Learners during Changing Times

Back to School for Grownups was established by Laura Gilbert, Ph.D. in 2009 to provide guidance and unbiased information for adult learners.

Laura’s Background

The day after high school graduation Laura left her tiny hometown for the big city.   For two years she studied musical theater and flute performance at the Boston Conservatory of Music.  Then “life” intervened.  Over the next four years Laura moved across the country, married, had children and earned a bachelor’s degree with a triple major in classical flute, piano and voice from the newly created Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Eight years later she returned to school as a single parent of four to earn a Master of Arts degree in Industrial Relations.  Years into a successful career in Human Resource Management, a favorite professor encouraged her to consider a Ph.D. program in Educational Psychology.  In 1997 Laura graduated with a specialty in gifted/creative individuals in the workplace.

Following the college graduation of her youngest child, Laura returned to the classroom once again, this time to fulfill her lifelong desire to study law.

Today Laura leads Back to School for Grownups, LLC and teaches adult learners at two universities.
